Desire - Fashion Library

As a collector of fashion books, I am always on the hunt for the latest title. Upon my discovery of Assouline's Leather Trunk by MCM I literally almost died. Full of 40 titles about fashion, art and design. Though I have yet found the reason to justify such a purchase (this bad boy runs for about 5k) I thought I should share this discovery with my readers. Until then, I will continue my collection title by title, but a girl can dream can't she?

I Want Candy - Miu Miu Resort 2011

While looking out my window at the snow covered city, all I can think about is the spring and the fashion that comes with it. The runways were bursting with colors, patterns, and sex appeal.

My favorite Resort 2011 collection was Miu Miu. This collection takes you back to Paris in the 1970’s with its fun patterns, bold colors and lingerie inspired shapes.

Miuccia Prada created a line that channels sensuality and innocence, masculinity and femininity, order and freedom with a collection of ready to wear crafted out of light fabrics that will take you from cool spring nights into the heat of the summer.

Get ready to stash your snow boots and down coats to trade them in for armfuls of bracelets and ultra girly accessories.

Go short or long, play with patterns, and top it off with a structured blazer

Desire - Wearable Art

Designer Mary Katrantzou created a dazzling debut for her first stand-alone fashion show for Spring 2011. Her collection was a feast for the eyes. The designer was inspired by the work of photographers Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin; their highly stylized images are reflected in each dress that hit the runway.  The garments were adorned with graphic prints pulled from vintage editions of Architectural Digest and World of Interiors and skirts were fashioned into lampshades. Each a surreal masterpiece.

Desire - Jimmy Choo

Jimmy Choo is celebrating his 15th anniversary this year. The shoe maker whose namesake is synonymous with luxury has released one of his most coveted collections to date.

The Cruise line is full of sky high stilettos crafted out of butter soft leather available in a variety of shades ranging from electric green to neutral cognac. But out of all the amazing styles my most desired pair of the collection is the Zafira.

Cast in a warm taupe hue, these suede beauties are adorn with hand sewn Swarovski Crystal. Sporting a six inch heel height, this sexy shoe wraps up to your ankle creating a feminine silhouette that makes your stems seem endless. I die.

Need it - Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony

Fashion tastemaker Chloe Sevigny released her third collection for the famed New York retailer Opening Ceremony. Her collection is a throwback to 1990’s streetwear that is composed of five silhouetted dresses: full skirt, pinafore, romper, sleeveless and straight that are available in five prints and colorways; floral, houndstooth, leopard, paisley and polka dot.

The collection is not just limited to the dresses; there are other strong pieces like a great pair of leather pants and distressed denim cut off shorts. Pair these pieces with the collections line of exclusive cropped tee’s adorned with the iconic images of the late photographer Robert Mapplethrope. Top off your look with tights, a knitted cap and a trendy half moon purse.

Sevigny has succeeded in creating the ultimate collection of mix and match where her customer can  create layered looks that are edgy, modern and sexy.

The leopard motif gives this girly full skirt dress a kick of edge.

Best Dressed of the Year - Blake Lively

With her all American looks, long blonde hair and even longer legs; Blake Lively has certainly made a splash in 2010 emerging to be the new darling of the fashion world. She possesses the ability to wear a dress as it was designed to be worn allowing her to rock a dress without looking like she’s trying.

Her moment came this year while attending the Couture shows in Paris. Her poise garnered the attention of Karl Langerfeld of Chanel and Anna Wintour of Vogue. Shoe designer Chrisitian Loubouton was so enamored with her style he created a heel and named it the Blake.

The best thing about Blake Lively’s look is that it’s not some stylists image, she dresses herself for each event.  She can look “girl next door” one day and then turn on the va-va voom the next. Gracing the covers of various glossy’s, starring in movies, and the lead character of the CW’s Gossip Girl I am certain we are just beginning to see where Blake Lively’s career is heading and I can't wait to see what she wears next!

Best Dressed of the Decade - Kate Moss

Kate Moss is a fashion icon. As one of the most recognizable faces in the industry, she graced the cover of over 90 glossy's and held countless contracts with top fashion houses such as Gucci, Roberto Cavalli, David Yurman, and Calvin Klein. This is why I would label her Best Dressed of the Decade.

She was discovered in JFK International Airport at age 14 en route home to London from family vacation in the Bahamas. Shortly thereafter she landed a modeling contract with Calvin Klein. Known as the Anti-Supermodel she is only 5'7 and pin thin; a far cry from the Glamazon's curvacious bodies of the 1980's. She is credited in ushering in the "Heroine Chic" and "Waif" look that dominated the runways in the early 1990's.

Her career accolades speak for themselves; she has been on every major runway in London, New York, Paris and Milan. She's graced the coveted Vanity Fair's Best Dressed List, Forbes ranked her the second highest earning model in 2007 and W Magazine had labeled her their muse. Even statues have been erected in her honor. Sculptor Marc Quinn created a 18 karat gold statue of Moss entitled Siren. Weighing in at 110lbs, it is the largest statue made from gold since the time of Ancient Egyptians.

Moss possess the uncanny ability to look ultra fabulous in everything that she wears. Fashionista's can thank her for bringing back pieces such as the blazer, cut off denim shorts, ankle booties and skinny jeans. She has a style that is effortless but cutting edge whether it be jeans and white tee or a vintage Christian Dior gown.
